Community Seed Share

Pfanny’s Farm Community Seed Share

Let’s Grow Together: A Community Seed Share at Pfanny’s Farm

In a world that feels a little uncertain at times, it’s comforting to know that we can still plant small seeds of hope-literally and figuratively. Here at Pfanny’s Farm, we’re creating a place for our local kula-our circle of community-to come together through the simple, generous act of sharing seeds.

Whether you have an extra packet or a handful you’ve saved yourself, your contribution helps nourish something much bigger than a garden. It builds connection, resilience, and the timeless exchange of knowledge that has sustained growers for generations.

Bring what you can, take what you need, and share your stories along the way. Let’s help each other grow-because when we share seeds, we share more than plants… we share possibility.

Donations of seeds (store-bought or home-saved) are now being accepted at The StoreFront at Pfanny’s Farm.

FAQ

What is the Community Seed Share?
The Community Seed Share is a way for our local kula—our circle of community—to share seeds, knowledge, and generosity. Right now, we are collecting seeds that will be made available to the community during our Spring Open House.

Are you sharing seeds right now?
Not yet. At this time, we are collecting seed donations only. Seeds will be available for sharing beginning at an open house at the farm early next spring.

Where do I drop off seeds?
Seed donations can be placed in the special drop box located outside The StoreFront door at Pfanny’s Farm.
Please include your name and contact info, we’ll probably have some questions for you 🙂

What kinds of seeds can I donate?
We welcome a wide variety of seeds, including:

  • Vegetable, herb, flower, and native plant seeds

  • Store-bought packets

  • Home-saved seeds

If you’re unsure-bring them anyway!

Can I donate old or expired seeds?
Yes. While germination can’t be guaranteed, many older seeds are still viable. We believe sharing them is better than letting them go to waste.

Do you limit donations to heirloom, non-GMO, organic, or native seeds?
No. We do not limit donations by seed type. Heirloom, hybrid, conventional, native, non-GMO—all are welcome. Choice and education are part of the sharing.

Do I need to label my seeds?
If possible, please include the plant name, variety (if known), and year saved or purchased. Don’t worry if you don’t know everything—any information helps.

Can I donate seeds I saved myself?
Absolutely! Home-saved seeds are encouraged. Sharing your seeds is also a way of sharing your experience and growing knowledge.

Is there a cost to participate?
No. The Community Seed Share is a gift-based project rooted in generosity and community.

Will Pfanny’s Farm test or guarantee seeds?
No. Seeds are shared “as-is.” Pfanny’s Farm cannot guarantee germination rates, purity, or performance. Gardeners are encouraged to use their own judgment and local growing practices.

Why start a seed share?
In uncertain times, sharing seeds is a powerful act of hope. It builds resilience, preserves knowledge, encourages real food growing, and strengthens community connections.
