We have lots of new things going on here at the farm, so out with the old, and in with the new!
Since the time we got married and moved to the farm (over 30 years ago!) we’ve had access to an outhouse.
…and, well, we’ve always had indoor plumbing too, but that’s beside the point 😉
We actually used the privy as our only toilet one very cold snowy week years ago. We were in the process of remodeling our bathroom, the contractor removed our indoor plumbing, headed for town for parts and was involved in an automobile accident.
We were glad to hear that he was ok, but I must admit that my second thought was “We have 4 kids, we are home all day every day, so…HOW SOON DO I GET MY BATHROOM BACK?!?!?
This year one of our new projects is a listing on Hipcamp.
We don’t get many opportunities to travel because we are so tied to the land, but Hipcamp will give us the chance to meet and visit with people from all sorts of places!
Hipcamp is a way for landowners to share their land with campers.
We tend to take our open skies, beautiful sunsets and sunrises, the singing birds, and the quiet peacefulness of rural Nebraska for granted. Our visitors help us see these things in a new light!
You can find our listing here.
(You really should click on that link and check it out!)
In order to be approved as a host site, we had to go through an application process and meet certain criteria. One of the requirements for a listing our size is to have a restroom that is available at all times. So Farmer Pfanny’s next project was born. He is the builder and I am the ideas person. Pinterest came in handy for sure! Isn’t she a beauty!?!
Did you know there are over 150 synonyms for “outhouse”?
What do you think we should call it~the ol’ biffy, the privy, the john, Mrs. Jones, the loo, the crapper…or do you have a better idea?
