“The plants and the earth are resting…”

I did something very unusual today…a little bit of NOTHING! 🙂

After finishing up my morning chores, I took off for what turned out to be a very pointless trip to Norfolk (but that is a whole other story).  All was not lost though, I use my travel time to listen to audiobooks. I love the free OverDrive system offered by Lied Randolph Public Library, and this weekend I am enjoying Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly. It is a very good historical fiction story about several women and their lives during WWII.
The story is hard to hear, but important, especially with all of our current government turmoil.
One of my favorite quotes from the book is: ““You have a choice. To wallow in the unfairness of it all or rise above it.”

I also planned a quick stop (oh, the stories we tell ourselves haha!) at the Norfolk library to return
a few books, fully intending to leave empty handed.
Instead I restrained myself and limited my checkouts to 3.

Farmer Pfanny took off early this morning to help out a neighbor, so I returned to an empty and very quiet house.
There are dirty dishes to tackle, as well as food to prepare for tomorrow’s family dinner, and a never-ending pile of paperwork.

Today, though, I’ve decided to gift myself with time. I lit the fire and made some popcorn, grabbed a blanket and tucked myself in with my stack of books and a glass of delicious raw, whole milk to keep me company.
This is heavenly, it allows my introvert self to restore and refresh and prepare for those long busy summer days to come.

So, you won’t hear me complaining about the snow and cold today and
I won’t be able to hear you over the roaring fire and the sound of turning pages.
What are you reading? I’d love to hear about your book selections!
